I have been working on the fireplace and needed a bit of instant gratification. You all know how that works, you just have to try fitting the parts together before it is ready to be glued together so you can see how it is going to turn out.

OK now it is back to being a stack of parts, my incremental reward break is over for the moment. My reward also served to give me a little something to post on the blog today. I hope you enjoyed it too.

Oh wow, it's GORGEOUS! Are those all individually laid bricks, or are they carved? Is it based on a real style of stove/fireplace?

They are individually laid bricks. If you look to the left in the list of labels choose the title "making miniature bricks" to see all the postings on how they are created.
The design is based on classic European fireplaces but it is not modeled on any one individual fireplace. This is my own original design. The carved rope molding is there because I wanted to use some elements of a seaside theme without making this a kitschy themed house. It has a raised hearth for the cook.
Beautiful work Karin! I really love your carved stone. Amazing! :)
Wow this was some of the most beautiful fireplaces I've ever seen. A lot of great work, but it is not difficult to work with stone? Do you sell ready-made fireplaces also ....?

You seem to work with such precision and patience, I found it impossible to believe that you too needed 'instant gratification'!
It is gorgeous though and hard to imagine that it is 1:12 scale.
Beautiful!! I cant belive it...You made it from real stone. Love your work, very well done:)
Wow this is the most beautiful fireplace I've ever seen. Is there something you make for sale?

And it looks GREAT!!!!!!
It is a masterpiece!
Stunning! I'm glad you took a reward break, 'cause I got to see this beauty!

Thank all of you for your encouragement, I need it. I still have a few last pieces to cut for this fireplace and I am running very low on the material. There is not another matching piece of stone at the store. I am feeling very nervous about making the last few sections for fear of messing them up.
I enjoy designing and making fireplaces. Perhaps someday I will create one similar to this design and offer it as a cast stone product.
There is an award for you on my blog Tom Pouce Dream. I wanted to tell you how much I love your work!
